ONCE SO FOND

By Roland E.  Williams

The boy who looked out at The Great Salt Pond

And at the hills that surround it on most sides

Also to the sea to which he had a strong bond

And to the many peoples and their many prides

The boy who listened to the many rains

As they fell from the heavens on his roof

Filling the ponds with its rich remains

The verdant hills ones resonating proof

The boy who smelled the clean salt water breeze

Smiling now, as he remembers with such ease

How the swollen pond flowed out to the seas

The boy who remembers The Great Salt Pond

Of which he was once so immensely fond

A memory remains…but the rest is all gone
