Heritage of Poetry

By Roland E. Williams

Is my poetry solely for me?

Or must I share it?

Is that not a question already answered?

By the many who said they liked what they read?

Is my poetry part of man’s heritage?

Is anyone’s poetry meant to be?

Or do we choose which will?

But if we do, have we the right criteria?

If I made mine solely mine

It shall always be my heritage

And so too my legacy

Then, too, what do I seek to do with it?

Do we emulate?

Do we combine?

Must we create?

Or can we leave it at re-creation?

Do we mimic?

Do we complement?

Must we use it all?

Or can we stay away from it all?
