DEFYING ABSENCE

 By Roland E. Williams

I wonder how many more minutes Of missing you so Will continue to feel like years?

How many falling stars will appear And light up the skies While my eyes keep drowning in tears?

How many times will my eyes have blinked When the tears have dried To be blinded by tears again?

How many sorrowful heartbeats skipped Intermittently Causing my chest to scream in pain?

How many leaves will fall from the trees Recycled to Earth As I enduringly want you?

How many more poems will I create As the reflection That you endlessly love me too?

Can I count the number of sunsets I will not enjoy Because dusk envelopes my heart?

The many clouds turned to elephants To then dissipate While with you my dreams end and start?
